Jamele Mason was born October 19, 1989 in Houston, Texas, to the parents of Julia Eaglin and Danny Mason.  Jamele is the eldest of his siblings; Justin, Briana, TJ, Donovan and step sister Janesah.  From a young age he always enjoyed running and participating in sports, but after watching the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, something changed.  Even in elementary school, Jamele told his teachers that he wanted to compete in the Olympics someday.

As he started running in a competitive nature in junior high school , he excelled.  During his career at Westfield High School, Jamele not only made it to the State Championships, but also set a school record in the 300m hurdles.  He was then recruited on a full track scholarship to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.   Jamele became a three-time All American, and runner up in the 2012 NCAA Championships in the 400m hurdles and set a Texas Tech University school record of 48.89.&nbs
