Stokard Channing was born Susan Antonia Williams Stocard on February 13, 1944, in New York City.
Growing up on the East Side in an Irish Catholic family, Channing experienced a privileged childhood. Her father, Lester Napier Stocard, was a prominent shipbuilder, and her mother, Mary Alice, was a loving and supportive figure.
